Amarnath Temple

Amarnath Shrine is considered to be the most popular Holiest cave among Hindu Religions. The Amarnath cave is dedicated to worship lord shiva. Perched at an elevation of around 3,888 m above the sea level. Most of the time except summer season , the cave is surrounded by the snowy mountains and covered with snow.

Amarnath is regarded as one of principal of Hindu Chardham Tour . Thousands of Devotees visiting to see an Ice Stalagmite formed inside the cave. An enshrined image of ice naturally formed in a cylindrical form which resembles Lord Shiva-Linga, begins to take its shape on the first day of the bright half of the month and reaches its full size on the full moon day (Poornima). The Amarnath temple is around 46 kms from Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and 4500mtrs above the sea level. The best time for Pilgrimage sight seeing fall between the month of July and August.

History : According to history , It is said that once there was a Gujjar named Buta Malik was given a bag full of coal by saint. When he reached home and he found that bag is full of Gold coins in place of Coal. Overjoy Gujjar ran back to the place where he had met the saint. Eventually , he found that a cave with a lingam inside it . Then onwards this place has become the sacred place of Pilgrimage . According to Hindu Mythology , It is said that this is cave where lord shiva told his all secret of life to his Wife Parvati. Beside Lord shiva Lingams , there are two other ice formations represents , one on the left side of the linga is an ice formation of Lord Ganesha, and on the right are formations of Parvati and Bhairava.
